DETRITUS: Detritus is dead particulate organic matter. It typically includes the fragments of dead organisms as well as fecal material. Detritus is typically colonized by communities of micro-organisms which act to decompose / re-mineralize the material. It is an important part of aquatic ecosystem, providing FUEL for micro-organisms and fungi at the base of the food chain in aquatic environments. Each fallen leaves tend to be versatile each with their own characteristics, appearances, and benefits. Some leaves tend to create more biofilms than many other leaves, because of their "waxy cutin dermal layer"; The very thing that makes them last so long underwater also enables them to recruit more biofilm. ROLE OF DRY LEAVES: As the temperature drops, trees stop supplying nutrients with leaves called scarring. They turn their coloration yellow,red,purple and brown. As they fall into a water body they creates foraging [aquatic plant mulch] supplemental food production, a place for fries to shelter and is a vital fascinating part of the natural environment.

PSEUDO-TANNINS IN DRY LEAVES: Pseudo-tannins naturally migrate to and accumulate in dead tissues and dying cells. As a leaf wilts and dries the cellular structure collapses,concentrating these simple phenolics. In dried leaves, pseudo-tannins and vitamin C share a dynamic relationship focused on ANTI-OXIDANT synergy, mutual chemical stabilization. Both pseudo-tannins and vitamin C are potent reducing agents.

They contain accessable HYDROXYL [-OH] group that readily donate electrons to neutralize harmful free radicals. Pseudo-tannins act as a secondary defense system offering electrons to help regenerate and recycle vitamin C back into its active, beneficial from before it permanently degrades. Dried leaves frequently contain a high concentration of pseudo-tannin which play a vital role in the plants defense system and accumulate heavily as plants age or die.

DEFINITION OF PSEUDO-TANNIN: They are low in molecular weight phenolic compounds found in plants that act as anti-oxidants but do not bind to proteins. [example-catechin]
